The JPG → PNG cycle

Some editors, patent offices and upload forms refuse JPEG on principle. This cycle re-packs your photo pixel-for-pixel into PNG — no further loss, no surprises.

PNG keeps transparency; JPG had none to give. PNG is lossless, so weight follows content — graphics shrink, photos grow. Either way, re-encoding through the canvas collects EXIF like lint — camera model, GPS coordinates and timestamps are stripped from the folded copy.

Questions at the counter

Does JPG to PNG improve image quality?

No converter can restore detail already lost to JPEG compression, and one that claims to is selling you smoothing filters. What this cycle guarantees is that no further quality is lost: PNG is lossless, so the copy equals the original exactly.

Why is the PNG larger than my JPG?

PNG stores every pixel faithfully while JPEG throws detail away to shrink. Expect two to five times the file size for photos. For screenshots and flat graphics the gap is far smaller.

Is EXIF data preserved?

No — and that is often the point. Re-encoding through the canvas strips camera metadata, GPS tags included, leaving clean pixels only.

Is the conversion really private?

Yes — architecturally. This page is static files; there is no server to receive an upload. Your JPG is decoded and re-encoded inside this tab by your own machine, and you can watch the absence of network traffic in your browser’s developer tools.
