The house rules

Most converters are chutes: your photo goes up someone else’s server, sits in a processing queue beside strangers’ holiday pictures, and a download comes back if the queue feels like it. Jaypegery keeps the whole laundromat in your tab. The browser already knows how to read JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF, and how to write PNG, JPEG and WebP — we built the machines around skills it already had, plus one small palette press for GIF.

That architecture decides the promises instead of decorating them. Privacy needs no policy because there is nothing to upload to. There is no file-size anxiety because nobody is paying for your bandwidth. And every ticket tells you exactly what happened: the format it became, the pixels it kept, the weight it landed at, and the lint — camera metadata, GPS tags — collected out of the wash.

Questions at the counter

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Jaypegery is a static site with no backend: decoding and re-encoding happen inside your browser tab using your own machine. You can disconnect from the network after the page loads and every cycle still runs.

What can I convert to what?

Anything your browser can read — JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF (first frame), BMP, SVG, AVIF where supported — can be washed into PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF. The price board below lists every route with a page of its own.

What does “wash temperature” change?

It is output quality, named honestly. Cold encodes fast and light (roughly quality 60), Warm balances both (85), Hot keeps near-everything (95). Lossless routes ignore the dial; GIF always washes at its fixed 256-colour palette.

Does converting strip my photos’ metadata?

Yes. Re-encoding through the canvas collects EXIF like lint — camera details, GPS coordinates and timestamps are all gone from the folded copy. That is usually a feature; keep your originals if you want the history.
